The Seismological Network of the Territorial Seismic Protection Service of the MES of the RA recorded a magnitude – 4.3 earthquake 12 km southeast of the town Kapan of Syunik Province, on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border zone, on January 16, at 07:25 local time (03:25 GMT). The earthquake was located at a depth of 10 km with the geographic coordinates of 39.14⁰ in the northern latitude and 46.52⁰ in the eastern longitude.

The tremor measured magnitude 5-6 points at the epicenter.

The earthquake was felt in the town Kapan and in several villages of Syunik Province (with a magnitude of 4-5 points), in the towns Vayk and Yeghegnadzor of Vayots Dzor Province, in Stepanakert city of Artsakh Republic (with a magnitude of 3-4 points).
