Scientific projects, training of young specialists: National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Emergency Situations signed a Memorandum of Understanding

On December 24, “Seismic Protection Territorial Survey” SNCO of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the RA and the Institute of Geophysics and Engineering Seismology after A. Nazarov of National Academy of Sciences RA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (hereinafter referred to as “MOU”) on “Scientific-engineering cooperation and training of young specialists”.

 The parties are going to cooperate on the joint scientific-engineering works in the scope of the fields of Earth sciences, training of young specialists, in the format of the implementation of scientific-practical projects and exchange of scientific-engineering knowledge. Databases, network monitoring are going to be constantly created and updated, joint projects are to be presented to the government, necessary data are to be exchanged during the time of disasters. The Memorandum also defines other responsibilities.

 The Memorandum was verified by Sos Margaryan, the Acting Director of “Seismic Protection Territorial Survey” SNCO of the MES of the RA, and Jon Karapetyan, the Director of Institute of Geophysics and Engineering Seismology after A. Nazarov of NAS RA.

 Armen Pambukhchyan, First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations RA, Levon Tavadyan, Academician-Secretary of the Division of Chemistry and Earth Sciences NAS RA, as well as a number of representatives of the two parties participated in the ceremony.

 Emphasizing the importance of the signature of Memorandum, Armen Pambukhchyan highlighted that the expanses of the elimination of consequences of natural and man-made disasters impact on the economy of the country are often higher than the expenses for their prevention and deduction.

 “Nowadays existing technologies, opportunities of satellite observations, developed methods to predict natural disasters give the opportunity to prevent human and economic loss.”- said First Deputy Minister of ES RA.
In his turn, Levon Tavadyan mentioned that seismic protection is the most important issue of their activities.

 “Unity is an important factor in the issue of seismic protection and risks deduction. It’s necessary to have joint management of resources, to receive the information on time, to correct or create appropriate maps. I am sure, the Memorandum will strengthen our cooperation.”- said the Academician-Secretary of NAS.

 The Memorandum enters into force from the date of its signing and is active within the term of 5 years.
