Earthquake on the 8th km south-east of Yerevan city: about 2 km of north of Nubarashen administrative district

Dear citizens, at this moment the activity of aftershocks has weakened. According to the analysis of the available data the probability of a strong earthquake is small. The residents can return to their apartments. There is a possibility of the aftershock, which will be felt by the population. We urge you not to panic.


At the moment, the National Crisis Management Center has received about 3000 different emergency calls. Relatively significant damage was reported from the received emergency calls on landslides in the following territories of Yerevan city: Ayvazovsky street (9 square meters of the wall and 7 sqaure meters of the roof of the one-story building collapsed), Smbat Zoravari street (2 square meters of the wall of the building collapsed), Chekhov street (1 square meter of the wall collapsed) and Komitas Avenue (about 10 tiles were torn from the wall).

According to preliminary data, the existence of an injured citizen on Ayvazovski street was denied.


On February 13, at 15:29 local time (at 11:29 GMT) the Seismological Network of the Territorial Seismic Protection Service of the MES of RA registered an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 and 10 kilometers depth with the geographic coordinates of 40.11⁰ in northern latitude and 44.54⁰ in eastern longitude on 8th km south-east of Yerevan city, Armenia (about 2 km north of Nubarashen administrative district). The magnitude of the earthquake in the epicenter was 6-7.

The earthquake was felt in Yerevan city with the magnitude of 5-6, in Ararat, Armavir, Kotayk provinces with the magnitude of 4-5, and in Aragatsotn, Shirak, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik and Syunik provinces with the magnitude of 3-4.

About 46 aftershocks were registered.
