The unique two-component quartz deformograph in the region, which records the movement of the earth as a signal of a possible earthquake, is located in the special tunnel 60 meters deep at Garni Geophysical Observatory, where stable 18 degrees Celsius is maintained throughout the year. The seismic observatory is the last stop for visitors after getting acquainted with the origin of earthquakes, forecasting possibilities, after theoretically getting acquainted with the rules of protection from them.

According to the research, the risk of earthquakes in the country is about 90% of the total natural disaster risks. This is the reason why a new awareness policy was adopted after the 1988 Spitak earthquake. Various groups of the society from pupils to civil service workers have been participating in the trainings organized by the “Seismological Network of the Territorial Seismic Protection Service” SNCO of the MES in order to raise public awareness for years.

Throught this program the pupils of the educational complex named after Mkhitar Sebastatsi were also presented the history of earthquakes, the importance of the activity carried out by seismologists and the main rules of earthquake protection.
