Historical review

1991 – Department of Emergency Situations is founded, under which headquarters for civil defence and all its units started to operate By the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia N 359 of 4 September

1997 rapid response rescue squads are created

1994 – Armenia becomes full member of International Civil Defence Organization

1997 – Department of Emergency Situations is removed from the structure of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and is renamed the Department of the Emergency Situations under the Government of the Republic of Armenia

1997 - In July - Major-General Vyacheslav Harutunyan is appointed as the head of the Department of the Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia

2001 - in Ferbruary - Major-General Hmayak Haroyan is appointed as the head of the Department of the Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia

2004 - Major-General Edik Barseghyan is appointed as the head of the Department of the Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia

2005- In December,the Department of the Emergency Situations is renamed Armenian Rescue Service operating as part of the Ministry of Territorial Administration

2008 - Armenian rescue service started functioning in the structure of the newly- created Ministry of the Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia

2010 – In July - Major-General Sergey Azaryan is appointed as the director of the Armenian Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia
